Shure Super 55 Deluxe Vocal Microphone Review / Test

Today I review the classic looking Shure Super 55 Deluxe Vocal Microphone. You’ll be getting a very well built mic with a super cardioid polar pattern to help with bleed from other instruments on stage & feedback from the PA, a cut to the low-end to curb the proximity effect, handling noise and plosives, and a presence boost to help your voice sit on top of the mix. Additionally, this thing will make you look like a modern Elvis who is fronting a rockabilly band.

Well if you think this one is too expensive you should look at the Shure 5575LE Unidyne 75th Anniversary edition, I believe it is right around $1100 but it has a red center not blue…..insert the Liar Liar pen joke here.

Who’s the guy at the end? Please explain

Blake Beard says:

I think it’s very much a beta 57/58 with an internal shock mount, that does look killer. I do like mine a lot for spoken word in non studio settings. It with a gate basically gives you a studio quality sound in a non studio setting, IMO.

David Ploss says:

Lol the end. Also, had this mic, never found a studio use for it other than a shooting prop for a video once. Sold it. Lol I never did live recordings…

Update on studio revamps: repairs to the structure on the low end are going to total $16k…high end, $24k…

So Yay? Lol imma go cry into whisky now

Plz do a versus series of rode nt1a

Hey, it’s the George Gray (TPIR announcer) microphone. (There’s also a regular Cardioid version, the Shure 55SH)

Fox says:

I loved the video!
I’m thinking about getting myself one of these, but I’m stuck and don’t know if I want to go for this one or the RE320. If you have any comments/advice, I’d love to hear it!
Would also love to see how the one compared to the other in a video.

Serious Lawyerbot says:

I tried it out at a friends house, similar built area to mine so itll sound about the same. I love the design of it, however with the way it’s built, it won’t work for my setup. And for my voice, i found it didn’t make me sound too appealing. For my friend however, its the most unique mic sound you’ll find.

সৃজনশীল কর্মকাণ্ড says:

Everyday his room gets more and more crammed hahaha
I’m wondering if in the future he’s gonna be stuck in a room filled with guitars, preamps and microphones haha
Oh and nice video!

Chucky Gold says:

The ending made a lot of sense! Time to start creating shit just talking about gear all the time will drive you insane!

Peter Hamilton says:

I agree that this IS a beautiful microphone, but honestly, I’m attracted to any well-built mic. A lot of mics out there are built incredibly well with nice metal grills and precise machining and all. I’m as attracted to that mic’s “built” aesthetic as I am to this one, who’s main attribute is looks.

La novedad Al momento says:

looks awesome

Matthias Krause says:

YES! I find that the Super 55 is a super dynamic podcasting mic. It’s upright, so it fits nicely between a computer screen and the speaker, unlike some mics where the cable comes out at the back. I als prefer supercardioid mics for podcasting. But it depends on one’s voice. My voice is so low and muddy that I benefit from the low end roll off, but higher voices may sound harsh with this mic. One point I missed in your video: The unusual direction of the XLR connector and its proximity to the mounting thread make it difficult to use this mic with certain boom arms. Generally, the counter screw ring of the mic stand has to be removed, because otherwise it would block the XLR plug. If more pop protection is needed, the WindTech popgard fits this mic perfectly.

Chris Cooling says:

who’s the guy at the end?
