For the type of harmonica described, my personal favorite is the Seydel Session Steel. Considering its durability, it may actually be cheaper than the Special 20 in the long run. Whatever the price, I prefer practically everything else about it.

R. W. says:

There are so many great ones. I cant really tell what i like best. Session Steel, L.Oskars, 1847, Promaster, Crossover, SP20, Manji, Rocket and far more…
But if a absolute beginner would ask me whats the best, depending ob the price i would answer “Hohner SP20” and if you really want the cheapest playable harp then the “Suzuki Harpmaster”. -> They are for 20€ to shoot.

Ed Spigel says:

Ok, I’m a little confused Jake. You’re holding a Lee Oskar but showing links for Special 20’s.

Which is your favorite?

Btw, I love your channel.

Ryan Gough says:

Hey Jake, been noticing a lot of references/images of the Lee Oskar harps on your channel of late, almost like you’re sponsored by them. Yet in your description you point to the Special 20. Strange…anyway as you say personal preference, I find plastic combs a little hollow/tinny sounding personally, but might be spoilt by the wood comb on my marine bands lol. On a side note, I’m still going through the harmonica for dummies second edition that you mentioned a few months ago, I’m really enjoying the book, yet to see how much better i get at playing though…just got to keep practising i guess…

mediaman46 says:

something you may want to mention, for some of with short and long term memory loss…. oh, I forgot I was writing but the Lee Oscars have the 2nd position tagged on the side for cross harp playing for the blues so when the guys say we are playing in E the A harp has 1st position A and the other side says 2nd position E…Lee Oscar is the only one I believe that does this, plus replacement reeds are much more affordable.

StellarChi says:

Great video’s Jake. Glad I found ya tonight. Lee Oscar Harp’s are the bomb. I was in Manny’s music back in the day when then Stones were in town ( Steel Wheels Tour). I went in to buy some Hohner golden melody’s which I used at the time and Mick came in and bought a couple dozen Lee Oscars. I thought ok ~ Why Not Try One ? I bought a D and have never looked back. Hardly ever blow a note out, awesome tone, great out of the box & when they do blow a note out you can easily repair them. Highly recommend !

Simon Ritchie says:

Seydel 1847 classic, wood comb over plastic. The Seydel combs are sealed so you don’t need to worry about warping or swelling and wood has a warmer sound than plastic. I own suzuki manjis, hohner marine band deluxe, hohner rocket, and hohner special 20’s, and the best harmonica out of all that I’ve played is the Seydel 1847 classic.
Out of the box they are in tune, you can overblow without any set up and they are comfortable. They are a bit pricey but the quality is very noticeable. My second favorite is the marine band deluxe, followed by the manji. The rocket is a great harp, so is the special 20. I like them all, but the Seydel is my favorite. I haven’t tried a lee oscar because of the bad things I’ve heard and read about them.
Was tempted to purchase one to try but am leary to waste my money for a bad experience.
