Don’t Buy a $100 Clarinet!

It’s tough to explain why one student clarinet is $500 and one found online is $100. Here we have one of those $100 in for repair… and there are things that can’t be fixed. IMC COULD buy cheap clarinets to sell… but we choose not to buy instruments that will hold students back!

older vid but want to ask…..so the ecl-100 that is very highly rated for a beginner is a bad bet?  And those that cant afford to buy or rent one forever should just avoid it/music or move to another instrument?

Destiny wzw says:

it annoys be seeing all the snobs saying I bought mine for 400 too cheap? ‘-‘ ‘.’

Linda Granite says:

This video is FANTASTIC! I’d love if you did more… would be a great way to help explain to families how they get what they pay for, when they purchase a cheap instrument. Thanks so much for making this.

I bought a 65 dolar clarinet. Not only was it better than the clarinet the school gave me, it only came with a oversized pad on a bent Ab or G# key. But in contrast I bought a clarinet that was worse than the ones at my school. The difference between the 2 purchases; play- testing.

john garcia says:

you are so wrong i got one for my son that was 100d and it was so better than yours

Paul says:

I paid $20 for a sweet Selmer signet special 100 wooden clarinet in good playable shape off craiglist.
I still can’t figure out why that nice woman sold me her college band clarinet for 20 bucks.
So the moral is, sometimes you can score a nice clarinet that someone just wants to get rid of or doesn’t know what they have.

Jake Giganti says:

I bought a $45000 dollar BBb LeBlanc Low C Paperclip Contra-Bass Clarinet. am I good?

JoJo Lynn says:

Thank you the info. I feel like I am over paying for the Clarinet I am renting through my daughters school (about 1000). I have not been able to find any reviews from lower end to high end clarinets. She enjoys playing but she is only in her first year, I know just in a few years she will move from beginner to intermediate. Then I will be buying another clarinet. I feel since I know nothing about instruments I can not make in informed decision what to purchase. I was considering the Sky Clarinet for 100 until I saw your video. Can you suggest a FEW mid cost beginner clarinets? up to 300.00

Annie Faucher says:

Ummm… a 100 dollar clarinet is never going to be good. What kind of band director buys this terrible of a clarinet??? JUST BUY A NICER CLARINET!!! Instruments are expensive for a reason, it’s because you can’t cut corners or it will end up like this

Skiellarr Wilson says:

Mine was more than $100 mine was 2,146 dollars (no joke) take care of your instruments!!

Official Phangirl #20092022 says:

I bought a $80 clarinet off of Amazon… maybe that’s why I can’t play any low or high notes…

Abby Ponce says:

i got my clarinet for $400. can anyone tell me if thats too cheap????

Levi Pryor says:

Don’t care at all. I bought a clarinet about 3 months ago for $80! MENDINI FOR THE WIN!!! =D

Caesar DeHaro says:

Music stores don’t like inexpensive instruments cutting them out of a profit.

Secular Student Alliance at Cienega High School says:

I bought a $30 from this store last Friday lol

millenniumtree says:

I guess I lucked out!
$80 Craigslist purchase. It’s a Bundy Resonite (Bb)
The lowest pad was a little leaky but was very easily fixed with a lighter and a dab of hot glue. It seals nice now, and I like doing little things like that myself.
Only other issues I had were getting a new mouthpiece – the original was very worn, and actually re-learning how to play after 20 years. 😛

Loner27neil Gaming says:

Dude why would you even buy an 100 buck horn that’s like getting sushi from a gas station you’re gonna wanna shit on the vendor after being the consumer of the product

For $100 on eBay I’d expect a very good vintage stencil clarinet made of wood. It’s a gamble whether it will need a tune up or not but it will sure be better than that thing! I learned on a Yamaha YCL-450N that I believe was $2000 at the time. Wouldn’t ever waste that kind of money on a horn myself!

Ted5896 says:

Buy a good quality older wood (40s – 60s) Noblet. Their underpriced on ebay, then spend $200-$300 to have it gone through with new pads and corks. For under $500 with a nice mouthpiece, you’ll have an instrument that you will still keep around as a backup even if you become a professional, and will play better than anything you’ll buy new for under $1500.

Karlie Triggs says:

I bought a blue mendini clarinet off of Amazon about a month ago and its good but i have feeling its going to break

Baseballkid 2214 says:

What if I get a Hisonic signature clarinet brand new that costs 140 on amazon is that good

Joaquin Valdez says:

Did anyone here notice that she kinda sounds like Ellen Degeneres??

Jatin Sridhar says:

100$ Mendini by Cecilia clarinet on amazon. Great sound, good quality, overall, amazing
